Learn how to use BP in three easy steps!
Step 1: Lean into your history lessons.
A typical week of BP starts with students reading their history spines and doing their assignments. BP’s two history spines are Remember the Days for grades K – 8 and Consider the Years / Companion for grades 8 – 12. All have 34 chapters for 34 weeks, leaving two free weeks in a typical 36-week school year. To get started, simply assign one chapter per week.
Also assign the workbook pages for each week. BP history workbooks are called Cool Histories, while BP geography workbooks are called Hands-on Maps. Your students can do either one or both. Use our free e-book answer keys to check your students’ work and assign grades if you like.
Step 2: Live the history through living books.
All that is just the beginning. To really understand the past, students must read literature that takes them back to the past. BP Lesson Plans Plus suggests age-appropriate living books for every lesson and unit. Parents and teachers can assign as many or as few living books as they want, whatever fits their students’ needs.
Step 3: Liven up your lessons with hands-on fun.
Besides history spines and workbooks, BP also offers discussion guides, pictorial timelines, activity books and more to enhance your study time. See our materials line above for more about each.
