Get to Know BP Notebooking
BP Notebooking invites students to research and write fun facts about important people and places. Building notebooks is a great way to learn research, writing and presentation skills. Building notebooks also helps build memories, as students are less likely to forget an idea when they’ve taken the time to look it up write it down in their own words.
Three Kinds of BP Notebooking:
Giants of the Faith
- Year One covers heroes from the Bible and the early church.
- Year Two covers heroes from the early church, the medieval church and the Protestant Reformation.
- Year Three covers heroes from huge happenings like the Puritan Migration, the First Great Awakening and the Second Great Awakening.
- Year Four covers brave missionaries who carried the gospel to all corners of the world.
The design of these project books makes them easy to customize for different grade levels. There are two pages for each giant. The first page has three sections:
- The top of the page asks for basic data about the giant: dates, birthplace, place of ministry, and what he or she is best known for.
- The middle of the page asks students to copy a quote from the giant, or a Bible verse about him or her.
- The rest of the page has space for a short biography of the giant.

U.S. States
Hands-On States covers all 50 states plus the District of Columbia in two years. The first 31 states technically belong in Year 3, starting with Delaware in 1787 and ending with California in 1850. The rest technically belong in Year 4. For convenience, though, some parents and teachers prefer to split them evenly between the years.
- Grades 2 – 4 might complete only the first page, which covers a few basic facts about the state.
- Grades 4 – 8 might add the second page, which adds more details, and the third page, which adds more still.
- High schoolers might add the fourth page, which invites them to research and write a brief history of the state.

U.S. Presidents
Hands-On Presidents covers 45 presidents of the United States, starting with George Washington and ending with Donald Trump. Because Year 3 ends at 1850, only the first twelve presidents technically belong in that year. The rest technically belong in Year 4. For convenience, though, some parents and teachers prefer to split them evenly between the years.
- Grades 2 – 4 might fill out only the first page, which covers basic facts about the president.
- Grades 4 – 6 might add the second page, which covers the president’s first lady and presidential home.
- Grades 6 – 8 might add the third page, which invites them to research and write about key events from the president’s term in office.
- Grades 8 – 12 might add extra copies of the third page, as many as they need for the level of detail they want.
