Introduction to

HANDS-ON MAPS

Hands-On Maps are fun geography assignments that reinforce the history and geography lessons in the Companion/Remember the Days. Each Hands-On Map page includes (1) a large map and (2) questions and activities for that map, all printed on the same page. For example, a map might ask a student to trace Abraham's path from Ur to Canaan, or Susan Constant's path from England to Jamestown.

Hands-On Maps come in two grade levels:

  1. Hands-On Maps for Middles, Grades 2 - 8
  2. Hands-On Maps for Advanced, Grades 8 - 12

Hands-On Maps for Middles
BP publishes one Hands-on Maps for Middles for each year of study, containing one or two maps per week. The Companion/Remember the Days and a globe are all your students need to fill out their maps.

These maps are generally appropriate for the Middles and Upper Middles age groups (grades 2 - 8). Younger Middles may need help to fill out their maps correctly. Each student should have his or her own copy of Hands-on Maps for Middles.

Hands-On Maps for Advanced
BP publishes one Hands-on Maps for Advanced each year of study, containing one or two maps per week. The Companion and a globe or world map are all your students need to fill out their maps. The Advanced are basically the same maps as the Middles, but with two important differences:

  • The Advanced maps feature more serious, challenging questions and activities.
  • The Hands-on Maps for Advanced book includes one geography exam for each unit of study.

These maps are generally appropriate for the Advanced age group (grades 8 - 12). Each student should have his or her own copy of Hands-on Maps for Advanced.

  • Because regular map practice will make your children deeply familiar with the world’s landforms, both in the U.S. and around the globe. Coloring and labeling Hands-On Maps each week will give your children a lifelong, fundamental understanding of world geography.
